Over the years, the demand for poultry products in Bangladesh has grown significantly; per capita consumption per year increased to 8.5 kg poultry meat and 5.1 kg (104 pieces) eggs in 2020
The livestock sector receives increasing amounts of investment every year. According to a BPICC source, investment in poultry in the 80s was only BDT 1,500 crore, which has now reached BDT 35,000 crore. It is estimated that the amount of this investment will double in the next 10 years.
Livestock is one of the fastest growing industries in Bangladesh, contributing about 2 (1.90) percent to the country’s GDP and more than 16 (16.52) percent to the agriculture sector in FY 2021-22.
Poultry farms in Bangladesh have a 15% growthrate and In 2020, the total poultry population in Bangladesh was estimated to be in the region of 400 million birds involving around 70,000 commercial chicken grower farms throughout the country
In FY 2021-22, the total amount of livestock in Bangladesh exceeded 43 crores. Due to this Bangladesh is now self-sufficient in meat production and can meet the population demand for 830 grams of meat per capita
